Guinea Pigs - Old Clan

Put Puts Clan:  Phil and Raquel

Update 08-08-2008:  Phil has passed away. He exhibited some signs of sickness for a short period and then he died. He lost his appetite and seemed to have a sudden respiratory problem and quickly died. Raquel is now living with Wilma and Betty in the "Old Maids Clan." May Phil rest in peace and be living happily in the guinea pig afterlife!

The Put Puts Clan has the top pool as shown to the left.  Phil and Raquel make up this clan.  You can see Phil in the top picture.

I adopted Raquel and Phil from the Wildlife Care Center in Fort Lauderdale, along with Ginger Snaps who lives in the Rheeter Clan with All Spice.  I had to do some clan making when I had all ten guinea pigs so as to avoid fighting among the males.  The way I have them all arranged now is working out great. No fighting and plenty of getting along!

Raquel is just such a beautiful girl I had to give her a proper name to represent her gorgeous swirly silver fur! She reminds me of a movie star with her looks and regal personality.  I keep calling her Tiffany though, guess I should have named her that instead.  She makes this "put put" noise when I hold her so I named her clan the Put Puts.  The Wildlife Care Center allowed me to adopt the three latest pigs only if they were spayed and neutered first because I already had the three males from them that were not neutered. They didn't want any babies to come of it and I agreed.  Since Phil is neutered he is the most mellow male I've ever had.  He and Raquel get along just fabulous and have never had any squabbles. Phil is more shy than Raquel.  Occasionally Phil will chatter his teeth at me when I try to pick him up. That is a sign of aggression that they usually reserve for other males as a precursor to a fight. I am surprised he would chatter his teeth at me, especially since he has no reason to fear me. Well, guinea pigs are weird creatures sometimes and although I've had them for years, I still can't quite figure them out!

The name Phil, like Gil, Bob Wiley, Sigmund and Dr. Marvin comes from the movie "What about Bob?"  Although I have five male guinea pigs named after the characters in that movie, they live in three separate clans.  I suppose if I were to get two more females I could name them Faye and Anna after the wife/mother and daughter in the movie. Do you think Bill Murray would approve of the names?

Phil and Raquel enjoy burrowing in the hay and sitting in their PVC Pipe.  Both enjoy being held and loved on and neither one has ever peed on me. I LOVE guinea pigs but I hate that they can't hold their bladder for long.  They are both fairly quiet, so unlike their neighbors below them in the Giggler Clan!

Thank you for visiting the Put Puts Clan page. I hope you will enjoy the video and pictures of them!
